“Today is a day of trouble, insults and disgrace. It is like when a child is ready to be born, but the mother has no strength to deliver the baby.” Isaiah 37:3
Merritt Tierce, executive director of the Texas Equal Access Fund, when asked what the impact of Texas’s new pro-life laws will be, said that more women will use misoprostol to self-abort, but also, “Many women will continue unwanted pregnancies because they have no other options. Because of the shame and stigma that surround abortion, we may not hear these stories in detail; however we know that, historically, this is what happens when abortion access is restricted.”
Ms. Tierce neglected to speak about the millions of women who have been harmed by botched abortions, and the hundreds of women who have died because of abortions gone bad. She didn’t say that Planned Parenthood’s myth of “safe, legal and rare abortions” is an outright lie. And of course she didn’t speak out about the over 55 million babies dead by abortion since the passage of Roe VS Wade which made abortion legal, lethal and large.
She did however add that “the only way to make abortion acceptable” is for post-abortive women who “just [didn’t] want to have a baby right now” to speak up so that abortion is “normalized.” Once again, she overlooks the thousands of women, myself included, who do speak up about how we regret our abortions. She makes no mention of course of the millions of men who regret lost fatherhood.
Abortion and harmful contraceptives are not normal. They are not natural. They hurt people, and kill people, especially babies. We must act now! We must continue to tell the truth about abortion and its impact on our lives. We must connect the dots between abortion, racism and sexual perversion.
